Parents'Evening Questionaire Response

At Parents’ Evenings in October we asked for your comments on what you think of St Mirin’s and what you would like us to improve. Thank you so much for the many positive comments you provided and I have an update on some of the suggestions you made with regards to improvements you would like to see implemented.
Car Parking
As I’m sure you are aware we have been concerned about the safety of our children due to the reckless and selfish way some people use the Church car park. I was heartened to see that many parents shared these concerns.
For some time now we have been in “negotiations” with the council and police to help improve the situation. I’m glad to report that zig-zag markings will be painted outside the small gate, no entry signs will be painted across the Church gate entrance and a clearer one way system will be marked.
We will also be starting a new system of entry and exit to the school which will involve the pupils walking behind the Church and exiting onto Carmunnock Rd from the small gate in front of the Church hall. To improve safety there will also be a 5 metre extension of the railings which are currently in position. This will take the danger of crossing the car park away. I would also encourage parents who use the car park to collect their children from the playground and escort them to their car.
Plans for the changes can be viewed on the Parents’ Notice Board just inside the school gates.
New School / Refurbishment
Many parents raised concerns about the facilities in St Mirin’s. We are all aware of the shortcomings of our building. However, I can reassure you that staff and visiting specialists make a huge effort to help overcome these. You only have to take one look in our trophy cabinet to see how well we do.
We have been in “negotiations” with the Council for several years with regards a new build or a refurbishment and the news is good and bad. I think it is safe to say there are no plans for a new building however, we are on the list for refurbishment. At this moment I cannot say what this will entail but I do have a meeting with council representatives on Monday evening. I will report any news I have.
After School clubs
Some parents requested more after school clubs and clubs which involved younger pupils. At the moment we have a netball club and a gymnastics club after school and a P1 dance club at lunchtime. More opportunities are planned for term 3.
We try to keep our website current and I do try to get information out to you as quickly as I can. I issue a letter for the term with as much information as I have however, sometimes events take place with short notice and sometimes I just get it wrong! Sorry.
