Free Dyslexia Awareness Day 9/11/13

The following event will take place in Langside Library on Saturday, November 9th, bewteen 1pm-3pm. Langside Library is located at 2 Sinclair Drive, across the street from the Old Victoria Infirmary in Battlefield.

Langside Library will be hosting a FREE Dyslexia Awareness Day for parents, carers and children to coincide with the launch of Glasgow Life's new junior fiction collection of 'dyslexic-friendly' books. Children of all ages who read at any reading level are welcome to attend.

The new 'Cracking Books' collection offers children of differing reading levels fun, exciting stories in a dyslexic-friendly format. The collection has been bought from the publisher Barrington Stoke, who specialise in creating children's literature with larger font and blond coloured paper that reduced glare normally associated with standard white paper. This selection will also include children's stories in a spoken word format, and books about dyslexia for parents and guardians.

Anne Rogerson, Principle of Scottish Charity Dyslexia Action, will be delivering a talk to parents/carers, whilst Glasgow Life's Communities team will facilitate some literacy themed crafts, games and acitivites for children. Refreshments will be provided.

Whilst this collection is exclusive to Langside Library, 'dyslexic friendly' books and spoken word literature can be found in all 32 of the city's libraries. Books can also be requested from another library and delivered to the branch of choice.
