Hand Washing Awareness

Members of St. Mirin's Eco Committee visited assemblies to deliver a hand washing presentation to their peers this week. Pupils were reminded of the importance of regular hand washing to prevent the spread of bacteria, particularly after a trip to the toilet. Hand Washing signs will be placed in all toilets in the school to act as a permanent reminder to pupils. During these hand washing assemblies, some pupils were surprised to be told that the whole hand washing process should last for the time it takes to sing 'Happy Birthday' twice. Pupils were also shown the different parts of their hands to wash...palms, back of hands, between the fingers, between the thumbs and index fingers, finger nails and wrists. Primary 6 and 7 pupils were also issued with Hand Washing Charts to see if this approach makes a positive impact on the number of pupils washing their hands throughout the day. We would be grateful if you could continue to reinforce the importance of hand washing at home. Thank you.
